The Mane Tours 14 Day trip brings you the best of Rwanda: where the savannah meets the rainforest. You can expect to see the animals of the savannahs (elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, rhino, leopard, and lions) and up to 15 monkey species and 2 primate species, the gorillas, and chimps!!! This trip specifically includes the most important and well known national parks – Akagera National Park, Nyungwe Forest National Park, and Volcanoes National Park.  You will also visit Lake Kivu which is on the western border of Rwanda.

DAY 1: Kigali
When you arrive at the Kigali Airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel.

DAY 2: Kigali – Akagera National Park (2 ½ hr. drive)
After breakfast, we will drive to the Akagera National Park. During the drive, we enjoy the beautiful landscape and rural way of life of the local people.

DAY 3: Akagera National Park
We will do a game drive in the morning in Akagera National Park and in the afternoon a boat trip on Lake Ihemaand then another game drive.

AkageraNational Park is Rwanda’s only savannah national park. The scenery is beautiful and you can expect to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos and crocodiles. With a little luck,l ions and leopards are also possible to see. With the recent re-introduction of the black rhinos to the park, you may get a glimpse of them also.

DAY 4: Akagera National Park – Kigali
We will again start the day with a game drive. We will have a picnic lunch at the top of Mount Mutumba (1,825m) which has stunning panoramic views of the park. We will then head back to Kigali to overnight.

DAY 5: Kigali – Butare – Nyungwe Forest (5 hr. drive)
We will leave Kigali in the morning and travel to the Butare (Huye) area. We will visit the Rukari Ancient History Museum and the Royal Residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa in the nearby town of Nyanza. After our visit and lunch, we will continue on to the Nyungwe Forest area.

The Nyungwe Forest is East Africa’s largest forest. Not only are there chimpanzees in the forest but there are also13 monkey species, including Angolan Black Colobus, Mona Monkeys, and Owl Faced Monkeys.

DAY 6: Nyungwe Forest
We will leave for the Nyungwe Forest early in the morning for Chimpanzee tracking. There are optional activities for the afternoon, such as a walk to the waterfall or to visit the Angolan Black Colobus monkeys.

DAY 7: Nyungwe Forest
You will have your choice of going bird watching or a canopy walk (one activity is included).

DAY 8: Nyungwe – Kibuye (Lake Kivu)(3 hr. drive)
We will drive through the Cyamudongo Natural Forest on our way to the Bugarama Hot Springs, which is the largest and biggest natural spring in Rwanda. It is possible to take a warm bath in the hot springs (optional). Afterwards, we will take a boat trip on Lake Kivu, with lunch and drinks. We will then continue on to Kibuye for overnight lodging.

DAY 9: Kibuye – Gisenyi (Lake Kivu)(2 hr. drive)
In the morning, you can relax at the lodge or on the beach of scenic Lake Kivu. It is also possible to take a walk along the lake’s shore. In the afternoon we will drive to Gisenyi.

DAY 10: Gisenyi – Volcanoes National Park (1 hr. drive)
In the morning in Gisenyi, you can relax on the beach in the morning or go for a nature walk along the shore. In the afternoon, we will continue on to the Volcanoes National Park area.

The Volcanoes National Park is a unique jungle, with many monkey species, including the endemic Golden Monkeys. Volcanoes National Park is part of the Virunga Mountains, covering Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, and the only place in the world where you can find Mountain Gorillas!

DAY 11: Volcanoes National Park
Gorilla trekking!!! In the early morning, you will depart with your ranger to search for one of the world’s most interesting and endangered animals, the Mountain Gorilla! You will spend one hour with one of our closest relatives. It is an experience you will never forget.

DAY 12: Volcanoes National Park
There are several optional activities for today (one activity included): take a nature walk in the national park, visit the golden monkeys, climb one of the volcanoes, or visit Dian Fossey’s grave.

You will return to your lodge for lunch and then go on a culture and heritage tour around Musanze.

DAY 13: Musanze – Kigali
We will drive to Lake Ruhondo and Lake Burera; the Twin Lakes. You can choose to go hiking, bird watching, or take a boat to one of the islands (one activity included).

In the afternoon there are two optional activities – visit a local village or the pygmies.

DAY 14: Kigali
After breakfast, we will drive to the Kigali Airport for your outbound flight. If your flight is later, you can go on a Kigali city tour which includes a visit of the Genocide Memorial (optional activity).
